Growth Knowledge Hub

The four concepts the work is built on.

Four ideas that recur across every VGL engagement, defined plainly.

These are not frameworks to be applied in order. They are the four things we have come to believe after building, scaling and exiting companies, and after sitting inside a number of growth-stage businesses since. Each one shapes what we recommend and what we decline.

Hidden Growth

Opportunity a company already holds but cannot see, sitting in existing customers, data, products, markets or channels that have never been deliberately worked.

Hidden growth is the original VGL observation and the one everything else follows from. Most companies have more opportunity available than they can see, and the constraint is attention rather than imagination. Everyone inside a business is fully occupied running what already works, so nobody owns the question of what else is possible. The opportunity also tends to sit between functions, which means it belongs to no single department and therefore appears on no roadmap.

Win First, Then Scale

Prove a go-to-market motion in the market before industrialising it. Find the market, win anchor customers, learn what actually converts, then automate and scale.

Most go-to-market failure is not a failure of execution. It is execution applied to an unproven motion, at volume, before anyone checked whether it worked. Automation multiplies whatever it is pointed at, including a targeting assumption nobody tested. Win first, then scale inverts the sequence: get evidence cheaply, then spend on making the proven thing repeatable. It is also the reason we scope engagements to one opportunity rather than a programme.

Sales Art

Knowing when to think, when to act, and in what order. The judgment that decides which growth lever matters now, rather than applying a fixed methodology regardless of situation.

Data matters enormously and it does not tell you what to do next. The same intervention succeeds at one company and fails at another, because the variable was never the intervention, it was which constraint happened to be binding. Sales Art is the ability to assess quickly what is actually broken, prescribe the right mix, and change the approach as the business changes. It is the hardest capability to buy and the main reason we embed rather than advise.

Sell Once, Reach Many

Growth through distribution leverage: one relationship that puts you in front of many customers, rather than one conversation producing one customer.

The fastest route into a market is often through someone already in it. Companies build elaborate demand generation and then treat channel as a logo slide, when the channel is frequently the shorter path to the same buyers. The design question is not who has access to our market. It is who earns more when we win, because that is the only durable reason anyone sells on your behalf. Win as your partners win.
